Helston School Eclipse Team: Louisa Tunstall, Steven Green & Neil Tunstall
We are two year ten pupils who along with the help of our Head of Science Neil Tunstall went to the Caribbean Island of Curaçao where on the 26th of February 1998 the last total eclipse before 1999 touched the Earth's surface.
In 1999 there will be a total eclipse of the sun over Cornwall and South Devon. Helston School is under a mile from the centre line of this eclipse, which makes it an almost perfect place to view and monitor this phenomenon.
Knowing how spectacular eclipses are, we thought it would be disastrous if we were not prepared for this event and as a consequence peoples eyesight was damaged. We decided it would be useful to know how other places that have had eclipses coped and prepared.
